Role overview

We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Networking and Security Engineer to support the delivery of technical infrastructure across client sites. This is a part-time, ad-hoc contractor role suited to individuals with strong operational capability and a disciplined approach to technical execution.

Working under the direction of senior consultants, the engineer will be responsible for on-site implementation tasks such as hardware racking, structured cabling, and patch management. In addition, the role may include independent tasks such as Wi-Fi surveys and first-line diagnostics. This position is ideal for engineers with a methodical mindset and the ability to execute instructions precisely in high-standard environments.

Responsibilities

Deploy and physically install networking and security equipment including switches, routers, access points, firewalls, and UPS systems.

Carry out racking, structured cabling, and patch panel management to a professional standard.

Support the configuration process by handling the on-site physical aspects of implementation.

Conduct wireless site surveys (predictive, passive, or active) using appropriate tooling.

Assist with hardware documentation including serial numbers, MAC addresses, and rack layouts.

Perform basic diagnostics and communicate findings clearly to consultants.

Ensure a professional and discreet presence when representing the company on client sites.

Adhere to project timelines, task-specific briefs, and reporting expectations.

Required qualifications

2–3 years of hands-on experience in networking or security infrastructure deployment.

Comfortable with rack installation, cable management, and general site readiness tasks.

Familiarity with core networking concepts including IP addressing, VLANs, and trunk/access ports.

Basic understanding of firewall principles such as NAT, VPNs, and ACLs.

Experience conducting wireless surveys or working with tools such as Ekahau, NetAlly, or Fluke.

Competency with serial console tools such as PuTTY, Tera Term, or equivalent.

Strong attention to detail with a focus on cleanliness and documentation.

Ability to follow precise technical instructions and work independently when required.

Desirable qualifications

Industry certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Ekahau ECSE, or similar.

Experience supporting deployments involving vendors such as Cisco, Meraki, Ubiquiti, Fortinet, or Ruckus.

Familiarity with SME and mid-market environments.
